2016 Kia Sportage

Because Hyundai released their all new Tucson a few months ago, Kia had to revamp their compact crossover, the Sportage, as well. This is because the two cars share the same platform and engines with the mention that the Kia is a sportier car than the Hyundai. The 2016 Kia Sportage has just been released at the Frankfurt Auto Show and it is quite an impressive little car. Unlike the Tucson which is an all new car, the Sportage borrowed the platform of the Tucson but it maintained some of the design cues of the older model. Unlike the older model though, the car is now larger, being a bit wider and taller as well as longer.

2016 Kia Sportage Price

This should allow it to compete with ease with European cars such as the Tiguan and it should also make its buyers happier because it will offer more room for luggage and people inside the cabin. The engines are quite new as well and the price has been adjusted in order to be a better choice than some of its competitors. The new 2016 Kia Sportage will now start at just $22,000 which is a lot better than some of its main rivals.

Engine

Engine

Under the hood of the car, the old 2.4 liter engine has been discontinued completely. In its place, Kia introduced a new 1.6 liter turbocharged inline 4 which is capable of 175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. While it may not be more than before, the new engine will certainly be a lot more economical and thanks to the larger amount of torque available from lower down the rev range, the car should become easier to drive as well.

The top of the range model will likely stick with the same 2 liter turbocharged inline 4 as before which will likely offer more than 260 horsepower. Both of them will only be available with an automatic gearbox and both of them will come with front or all wheel drive. In Europe, the car will also get a couple of diesel engines with power ranging from 110 to 170 horsepower.

Design Exterior and Interior

Side

The design of the 2016 Kia Sportage has also been changed quite a bit and even though the older model still lives in some of the design cues on the car, the front end is all new. The car features a similar grille to the Optima, all new headlights, four-beam fog-lamps as well as a more aggressive bumper. The back also received a dual-exhaust system on the base model which makes for a more interesting look than before. Inside the cabin things are quite similar as well. Kia gave the Sportage an all new design and better materials as well as more space, thus becoming one of the best cars in its class.
