The US version of the Cruze has been updated a while ago and not too long ago it received a new update with the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze. This time around, the model received an entirely new body style as well as a few changes to its running gear. Unlike the previous model which was also available in Europe, the new version is only available on the US market and this is mostly because the new Cruze is basically an Opel Astra with a slightly different body on it and slight changes to its powertrain.
2017 Chevrolet Cruze Price
Being Chevrolet’s best selling car, the Cruze has received a lot of attention so even though it shares its platform with the European model and some of its running gear components such as the brakes, the car’s suspension has been tweaked in order to offer a more composed ride and also more feedback than before. The engine on the car is unchanged but this will likely change in the near future when an all new engine might be added to the range in order to allow it to compete with the Focus. The price of the sedan starts at just under $17,000 while the hatchback’s price is still unknown at this point but we expect a $1,000 premium that will be accounted for with the extra features added inside the cabin.
Design wise, the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze is probably one of the best looking car in its class and it somehow manages to depart itself from its close sibling, the Astra, while looking a lot more aggressive and also better balanced which is quite unusual in its class. The front end on both models feature the already well known honeycomb lower grille and the Camaro-inspired upper grille and headlights which really look good on both models. The hatchback is a bit better balanced thanks to the longer roof but the sedan also offers a really nice combination with its classy rear end. The top end versions of the car can be had with a sportier package which adds a new front bumper with a black splitter, a more aggressive rear bumper as well as a twin-exhaust pipe on the left.
2017 Chevy Cruze Interior
Inside the cabin, the Cruze is offering a lot more space than some of its competitors and the hatchback model is actually being able to offer the most amount of trunk space in its class. Design wise, unlike the older model, the new Cruze is a lot more conventional as it features a normal instrument cluster with two easy-to-read dials, a really nice center stack where everything is nicely laid out and easy to read as well as a great driving position and a large windscreen that offers great visibility forwards.
2017 Chevrolet Cruze engine specs
Under the hood, the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze is being offered with one engine choice for the moment, a 1.4 liter turbocharged inline 4 mill with 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque which is far better than before. The tiny engine is mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox as standard while a 6 speed automatic can also be had as an option. In any case, a 0 to 60 MPH time of 8 seconds can be achieved which is better than the average while around 40 MPG on the highway is not exactly impossible. In the near future we do expect the Cruze to receive a higher performance model that could use GM’s new 2 liter turbocharged mill. This particular model would likely be able to offer up to 270 horsepower and over 280 lb-ft of torque and it would make for a very impressive hot hatchback. Unfortunately it hasn’t been confirmed just yet but GM’s moves seem to indicate that production is getting close.
