The F-150 has just been revised last year and the current model is the most advanced truck on the market to date. However, there are some drawbacks such as not so fuel efficient engines despite what Ford promised as well as the complete lack of a performance model. Ford is going to address that in the near future with the 2017 Ford F-150 which is going to add a few new features to the truck as well as new engines. On top of that, an all new trim level is going to be added which is likely going to make a lot of the Ford’s fans happy.
2017 Ford F-150 Price
The chassis will remain mostly unchanged but there are rumors that Ford is going to add even more lightweight materials to the platform of the F-150 in order to increase its structural rigidity even further and also to shave another 50 pounds or so from it. The body on the other hand will continue to be made out of aluminum which adds a lot of benefits over the usual steel body without many drawbacks. The price for the truck will remain similar to that of the current generation with an expected base price of around $27,000 while the top of the range models will fetch as much as $60,000 or more. The release date has been set in the mid of 2016 and the truck should be ready for sale by the end of that year.
2017 Ford F-150 Specs
Under the hood of the 2017 Ford F-150 we are likely going to see a few changes which are meant to give it a bit more power while making the fuel consumption a bit better. There have been rumors that the 2.3 liter EcoBoost engine will find its way to the F-150 but it is highly unlikely. In fact, we think that the old 3.5 liter Duratec is going to be replaced with a bigger 3.7 liter V6 which will offer a higher output at 320 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque while having a very similar fuel consumption to the 3.5 liter V6. The 5 liter V8 as well as the 3.5 liter EcoBoost engines are likely going to be carried over unchanged but Ford’s jewel, the 2.7 liter EcoBoost V6 will likely see an upgrade to a 3 liter version with more torque and better fuel consumption. All of these will be available with Ford’s all new 10 speed automatic and either rear wheel drive or all wheel drive.
The special Raptor edition on the other hand will finally see the move to a 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6 which is said to make well over 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque, enough to make the massive truck accelerate just as fast as a sports car.
The exterior design of the 2017 Ford F-150 will not change all that much considering this will be nothing more than a mid-life update. However, the Raptor will get a more aggressive body-kit with new headlights and tail lights, a new grille and smaller wheels coupled with all terrain tires. Just like the previous generation, it will get high performance shocks and springs as well as under-body plates that will protect it from rocks or debris.
Ford F150 2017 Interior
Inside the cabin the 2017 Ford F-150 will still offer all the usual equipment of the current generation and many of the changes with the 2017 model are going to happen in the safety department. As standard it will likely come with lane departure warning and lane-keep assist, frontal collision warning, cruise control with the possibility of adding an adaptive cruise control system as well as hill descent and hold which will greatly help the driver especially when the F-150 will be towing large loads.
