The new generation of the Super Duty series has been rumored ever since the aluminum bodied F-150 has been released on the market a couple of years ago. Well, the wait if over because a couple of months ago the all new 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty has been released and it is expected to go on sale quite soon. In order to meet the growing demand, Ford also hired 2,000 more people at their Kentucky facility which will build the all new truck.
2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty Review
Unlike the previous generation, the new Super Duty features a high strength steel chassis which is at least 20% stiffer than that of the previous model. Also, just like with the F-150, it received a full aluminum military grade body which is more durable than the steel one and also corrosion resistant. Unfortunately though, the aluminum also means higher repair costs but this should not be a problem for most people considering the aluminum is quite strong. These upgrades means that the truck loses up to 350 pounds which is not as much as the F-150 but this is because the axles, brakes and even the suspension system has been beefed up in order to allow the truck to tow and carry much higher payloads than before.
In terms of design the new 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty is actually more similar to the F-150 than the older F-250 and this is mostly because in order to save money Ford decided to use the same cabin on the two trucks. However, the front end is more imposing on the Super Duty with more chrome, larger headlights and a more durable front bumper. The back features a more industrial design with a steel bumper and a large Ford inscription on the tailgate.
2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty Interior
The interior is also much better, both in terms of quality and equipment. The dashboard has a nicer and easier to use design, the seats are more comfortable and as standard the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty will now come with air conditioning, cruise control and even an automatic trailer steering system which will be upgradable to a 360 degree view camera system with the automatic trailer control system.
Ford F-Series Super Duty 2017 Specs
Engine wise, Ford decided not to use the great EcoBoost series engines because they wanted the reliability of the current V8 line of engines. The base model will stick with the 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 while the larger Super Duty trucks will get the 6.8 liter V10. However, most people will likely opt for the 6.7 liter turbocharged V8 diesel which offers the best towing capabilities in its class thanks to its 440 horsepower and 880 lb-ft of torque. All of them will be available with rear or four wheel drive and a standard 6 speed automatic gearbox.
